That was the most fun I’ve had on a bike in a long, long time. I walked in the door, and my wife said with a straight face “why are you so dirty?” Great racing everyone.

Such a fun course. Anybody know where to find the 4/5 results? I get that folks were dealing with packing up the course … in the dark … and the rain … but would be nice to be able to find results somewhere. Any idea when/where they’ll be posted?

First sand pit of the Cat 4 race I crashed into another rider and cut my knee. Finished the race covered in blood, then finished the Cat 4/5 race. 7 stitches. I educated the folks in the ER on cyclocross.

Also, if anyone found an orange Garmin XT910, it fell off my wrist somewhere during the Cat 4 race.

That was awesome. What a great mix of power and technical sections, steep climbs, gradual climbs, lots of sand, and barriers placed such that they could actually be taken with some speed. Thanks for bringing out Kenny to announce; he’s great. Thanks to everyone who made this race happen. One of my favorites!

  • Bob
Posted on November 23, 2014 at 10:04 pm

What a preposterously fun course. In 4/5s I saw a guy slide down the hill and right through the barrier in an off camber section. He had the wherewithal to call out “hey it’s slippery there guys” as we passed. It looked as though he was sliding on ice. Special thanks to all the excellent hecklers and oddly also to Bill Scheiken (CXhairs) for his recent appropriate “Your Moment of Svenness 1.1” video; I used this great advice on the “run vs ride” decisions for today, and it helped me a ton. Thanks CCC for a great series. I move this coming summer and will sincerely miss this slightly misfit band of crossers, agitators, and rebels.

What a race! Finally cyclocross weather!
I’m taking both my bikes to George Garner’s to get thorough cleanings!
My bike clothes took two cycles in the laundry, and I still had to soak my jersey.
    I’d say that was good!

  • Ted Burger
Posted on November 24, 2014 at 9:10 am

Thanks to all who came out and raced, I think we were able to make some improvements from previous versions of the race. Please let Chris and I know what worked and what failed, we hope to keep refining the course over the years. A special thanks goes out to all the volunteers who made the race possible, without you braving the rain and early hours none of this magic happens.

    • Boundy
Posted on November 24, 2014 at 10:07 am

Ted & Chris & Volunteers – I didn’t get to race the course this year, but I walked it and watched most of the races yesterday. Great job in the design! A really good challenging overall cross course and the rain brought it to the next level.

      • Bryan Rheude
Posted on November 24, 2014 at 11:03 am

Agree. As with a couple other courses, I was a little skeptical on the warm-up laps, but then at race speed, the course really came to life. Great mix of varied technical challenges!

    • Mike Page
Posted on November 24, 2014 at 11:21 am

Ted & Chris, The course was spot on. The course was beautifully designed and showed great use of the terrain at hand. One thing I really admired about the course and I wish other promoters (which I highly respect) would try at a little harder at this – the width of the course. You guys nailed it. So many times the course is so narrow it is impossible to pass/race. Also, the course crossings where well placed, marked and managed. Something also often over looked. Two thumbs up, excited to see what next year brings!

      • ncandriano
Posted on November 26, 2014 at 8:08 am

Mike has a great point. There have been sections in past races where I could have turned my bike sideways and touched tape on both sides of the course. Way to dial everything in perfectly! The only other thing I noticed was there was a lot of debris on the hill immediately following the start. Like, broken glass and hard plastic chunks and stuff. I went and cleaned it up after I raced but be aware of that if we use that hill in the future (and I hope we do!).

    • Andy Heuser
Posted on November 24, 2014 at 11:30 am

Course was great! The rocks along the top of the basin were a little over the top and I was very glad to see the course widened so
they could be riden around! Thats the only issue I saw or heard of.

    • lou
Posted on November 24, 2014 at 3:13 pm

Ted you guys did a great job on this course, turns were properly sized so there were multiple good lines, and the ability to carry speed through them at times was a nice change. The pit needs to be moved though it was small, and in a tough place to see riders coming. It was awesome to have the metal fencing at the start grid, maybe another 30 pieces and you would have a proper pit laid out also with some stands for parking too. I felt bad and got frustrated in the pit during the 1/2/3, it was confusing and shouldn’t have a course crossing basically through it. People naturally crossed the course then would walk right into the pit lane, which could have been dangerous. As it was we were yelling at people to look out and be careful, dozens of times, which made me feel like a jerk but worried about people getting hurt spectating.

    • Jostein Alvestad
Posted on November 24, 2014 at 4:40 pm

Loved the euro style technical course- the more technical, the more I was smiling.
One minor safety detail : the turn around the huge cement block out of the retention pond. I kept thinking that some noob will take the muddy line close, slip and smack their face in it… Tape moved a couple of feet down away from it would eliminate that hazard and actually make the turn even harder.
I understand we can’t “put pillows everywhere”, but looking at a course from a risk management point-of-view, that is the one spot I would change.
      Great job on the design!

Posted on November 25, 2014 at 11:28 am

I really liked the well thought out design. I did not think that you could change a course up that much, but your team accomplished that. A lot of the points made above are worthy to note. Maybe a flyover figure 8 near the sand pit would spice things up. I know of one you can use!

Posted on November 24, 2014 at 10:06 am

Ted, I think you may need to utilize the local fire department in the future, because it will never be as fun unless it’s that soaked!

Any way to get the lights turned on next year for the 4/5 and clean-up?

Guys I’m getting burned for my poor performance through the large sand pit on the first lap. Who were the photographer/people with go pros at the big sand pit durning the single speed race? Looking for a video/pictures to redeem myself. I was the guy in the green medal kit who rode through ringing my bell and did a wheelie on the other side.

Sorry to all the racers in the 4/5s who are looking for photos and finding few to none. Photography requires light, and your race lacked a sufficient amount. We captured a few and posted them here, but ran out of light by the end of the first lap. Your efforts were still valiant!

Men 4/5. Most difficult race for me, and quite a lot of fun. Lens stays dirty so you get the full effect of this race and the camera quit after 2 1/2 laps. Enjoy.

Found the course to be extremely ballin’ – kudos to Ted and Chris on the layout.
Stuff I had ridden no problem in earlier pre-race laps were either too greasy for me make it up later, or I couldn’t summon the watts anymore after killing myself to stay within sight of the real race for half of the first lap.

Definitely one of my favorite courses in the six seasons I’ve been doing this!
